Marco Polo

One of Brooklyn’s most popular and acclaimed eateries.

Celebrating over 20 years as a culinary jewel in Brooklyn, New York, Marco Polo Ristorante offers fine dining in the historic Carroll Gardens district. Owner and restaurateur Joseph Chirico, who came to Carroll Gardens as a teenager in 1964 from San Martino, Italy, established a number of smaller, successful restaurants before erecting and opening Marco Polo Ristorante in 1983.

Marco Polo is comfortable yet elegant with a distinctive menu that offers a full complement of Northern and Southern Italian cuisine to tempt the palate and excite the senses. Francesco Insingo, the Chef for more than 17 years, will also dazzle you with his creative daily specials. The service is extraordinary, with many dishes prepared table side, such as homemade fettuccine and truffle oil tossed in a wheel of parmigiano cheese. Many of the desserts are homemade including its popular Tiramisu. The dinner menu offers a variety of cold and hot appetizers such as Insalata di Mare, Carpaccio di Manzo, and Antipasto Misto featuring an assortment of baked clams, stuffed mushrooms, stuffed shrimp and mozzarella in carrozza. Pasta dishes include Linguine alle Vongole, Lobster Ravioli, and Tortellacci di Magro (homemade pasta filled with veal, spinach and parmigiano cheese.

Choose from Rice, Chicken, Veal, Beef, Pork, Lamb and Fish dishes including Petto di Pollo al Tarragon (grilled breast of chicken with tarragon, shallots, wild mushrooms and Brandy cream), Vitello Valdsotano (veal chop stuffed with prosciutto and fontina cheese, topped with mushroom sauce), Carre d’Agnello (roast rack of lamb), Dentice al Pernod (red snapper with fennel & Pernod sauce), and Gamberi Scampi (shrimp sauteed with white wine, lemon, garlic, butter, parsley, served over rice).

The decor features brick and stone arches, a full mahogany bar where you can enjoy a cocktail before or after dinner, a marble fireplace, and a beautiful wall mural depicting Marco Polo and Venetian scenes. There is also a cafe and live piano entertainment.

The 20th Anniversary celebration of the restaurant was featured in the New York Times in June of 2003. Mr. Chirico hosted Professor Siro Polo Padolecchia, the only living descendant of the famed Venetian explorer after whom the restaurant is named. The two-week long celebration began with an invitation only gala feast followed by an offering to the public of a fine array of Venetian dishes such as “Risi e Bisi dei Dogi”, “Baccalá Veneziana”, “Petto d’Anitra Dolce Forte” and a special chocolate topped dessert “Charlotte, Mori di Venezia”. Marco Polo is well known for its choice menus for special events such as Thanksgiving, Valentine’s Day, Mother’s Day, Easter, Christmas Eve, New Year’s Eve, and special regional offerings such as “Settimana della Cucina Romana”.
