Estero River
The Estero River’s designated paddling trail runs nine miles, from Koreshan State Historic Site to Lovers Key. Other sites for paddling include Mound Key and Big Hickory Island, and on the 190-mile Great Calusa Blueway that stretches from Ft. Myers to Bonita Beach.
The Estero River is a 6.4-mile-long (10.3 km) waterway in south Lee County, Florida, near the census-designated place of Estero. It flows from east to west, where it empties into Estero Bay, an inlet of the Gulf of Mexico.
The Estero River is located in Southwest Florida. The river is 6.52 miles long, flows west and spills into Estero Bay estuary. The Estero River has a rich assortment of wildlife and is an important habitat for some of Florida’s endangered species. These include the American alligator (Alligator mississippiensis), Key Largo Woodrat (Neotoma floridana smalli), Gray Bat (Myotis grisescens), and the Whooping Crane (Grus americana), as well as others.
